MYS Symphony Orch Notes - 1.9.19

It's FIREBIRD time!!

Hello everybody! I hope you're as excited as I am about starting work on Stravinsky's Firebird Suite (1919 version).

This is one of the most iconic pieces of music in all of music history.

This piece has been delighting (and startling) audiences since its creation in 1910, including the person in this video:

This Saturday, we will have sectionals during the first half of rehearsal, and tutti the second half. The entire time, we will be working on the Infernal Dance.

Here's a good live performance of the whole piece by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Myung-Whun Chung:

Please START PRACTICING the Infernal Dance. This whole piece (not only the Infernal Dance but all other movements) is very challenging (and rewarding).

I hope that from our last couple of concerts you've learned that it's important to front-load your practicing so that rehearsals will be easier and more efficient as we progress through the concert term.

See you Saturday!

Dr. G.
