Symphony Orch. Strings - OUTREACH!!

Hi everybody,

If you have been with MYS for several years, there's a good chance you've played an outreach concert with one of our younger ensembles.

If not, you should know that each year, several MYS ensembles do a one-day outreach mini-concert tour to local elementary schools with limited access to music programs. It's one of my favorite ways of giving back to our community.

This year, the STRINGS of Symphony Orchestra will do one of these outreach tours. While participation is not required (you will have to miss one day of school), it is strongly recommended, and these mini-concerts are a lot of fun. Also, we get to all go and eat pizza for lunch together, provided by MYS!

Permission forms will be distributed to the string players of Symphony Orchestra at our first weeknight rehearsal on Thursday, January 3 at 7:00pm. These forms are due back the next day at our weeknight rehearsal (Friday, January 4 at 7:00pm).

More details below. I hope that most of you will be able to join us for this exciting one-day mini-tour.

Date: Thursday, January 24

Time commitment: 7:45am to 3:00pm

Departure: meet at MYS Office (4800 SW Macadam Ave) at 7:45am for bus transportation to first school.

Return: Bus will return to MYS office by 3:00pm (approximately).

Area to be toured: SE Portland, PPS

Schools:

- Grout Elementary

- Harrison Park Elementary

- Woodmere Elementary

The whole group will go to lunch (provided by MYS) between the 2nd and 3rd performances, place TBD.

NOTE regarding transportation: families can choose to drop off their student at the first school and pick them up at the last school (instead of taking the MYS bus). Exact times TBD.
